BREAKING: BURNTWOOD GREEN HAS A VOICE, AND IT HAS AN ANTHEM!

To our supporters, our neighbours, and everyone who has stood with us on the windy pasture walks of Coulter Lane—we have something truly extraordinary to share today.

While our Strategic Policy Team has been locked in the dry, clinical worlds of planning law, hydrological assessments, and traffic bottlenecks, the soul of our community has been captured in music.

We are proud to announce the release of our official campaign anthem, “Come People (AKA The Fields of Burntwood Green)”, released under the moniker The Burntwood Green Preservation Society (with a respectful nod to The Kinks!).

The track was written and performed by local songwriters Michael Clapham and Russ Phillips (from local favourites Gorstey Lea). Recorded locally in “The Gorstey Shack” on Gorstey Lea, mixed by George Shilling, and mastered by Mark Gardener (from 90s band Ride at OX4 Studio), the track is licensed via 500 Broadcast Recordings 2026.

Written out of a deep love for Burntwood, this song has found its true home right here, right now, as our fight to save our historic fields reaches its boiling point.

WHY “THE FIELDS OF BURNTWOOD GREEN” MATTERS

Our campaign has never been just about blocking houses or arguing over planning spreadsheets. It has always been about belonging.

When Michael and Russ sing of the “Fields of Burntwood Green,” they are singing about the very land under threat:

• The beautiful, tranquil, and peaceful pastures where sheep have grazed for generations.
• The 700-year-old historic boundary where our residential town transitions into open countryside.
• The precious “Scholarship Soil” of the Fulfen, deeply intertwined with the historic legacy of Samuel Johnson and Francis Barber.

When volume developers like Bloor Homes look at these fields, they see an anonymous arable void to be paved over with 250 executive concrete houses, tarmac, and streetlights. But when our community looks at these fields, we see our heritage. And now, we have a collective anthem to stand up for it.
