We need YOUR help to protect our precious local wildlife from the proposed development of 300 homes on land off Coulter Lane/ Church Road. This isn’t just about buildings; it’s about destroying vital habitats for creatures like Barney the Badger and Oscar the Owl!

πŸŽ₯ Watch our video featuring footage caught on a Ring camera in Ashmole Avenue, right next to the proposed development site. It shows Barney the Badger and Oscar the Owl, clear evidence of the thriving wildlife in this area.

Barney the Badger and Oscar the Owl

A local resident shared their concerns: “We’re confident that there will be badgers and/or burrows on the land west off Coulter Lane/ Church Road, given the proximity, in that our gardens are adjoining the land.”

This development poses a direct threat to protected species!

  • Badgers are protected under the Protection of Badgers Act 1992. This Act makes it an offence to intentionally or recklessly damage, destroy, or obstruct access to a badger sett, or to disturb badgers in their setts. Any development must adhere to this vital legislation.
  • Owls and their habitats are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. This Act safeguards wild birds, their eggs, and nests, and protects against the intentional or reckless disturbance of certain species, especially during nesting.

We cannot allow this development to proceed without full consideration and protection of our wildlife. Losing these green spaces means losing our wildlife.

What you can do:

  1. WATCH & SHARE THIS VIDEO WIDELY! Let’s make sure everyone sees the wildlife at risk.
  2. CONTACT YOUR LOCAL COUNCILLORS and express your strong opposition to the Coulter Lane development, highlighting the protected species.
  3. STAY INFORMED and join local action groups fighting for our green spaces. Like and follow us on Facebook and subscribe to this website.

Let’s stand together for Barney, Oscar, and all the incredible wildlife that calls Coulter Lane/ Church Road home!

There are also Muntjac which have been seen recently crossing back and forth over Coulter Lane and grazing in the fields adjacent to the lane not to mention the bats which can be clearly seen at dusk flying over Coulter Lane.

We live in Ashmole Avenue overlooking the fields, we hear the Owls most nights and at dusk see the bats dipping and flying in and out of the tree and lots of birds of prey.
it is the wrong place to spread more houses into the corner of beautiful countryside in Burntwood when there is brown land not being used closer to main roads to ease congestion through the small roads in Burntwood which are already over congested.
I don’t trust Bloor Homes to build the infrastructure after they have built the houses, infrastructure first then houses.

Today 27/7/25 , crops were being harvested in a field down Coulter Lane that Bloor homes that plan to build hoses on how can the land be reclassified as grey belt if it’s actively being used for crop production

    1. Yes Neil. We have been led up the garden path by our government and the national planning framework. Developers are rubbing their hands together, they are like kids in a sweet shop. The Green to Grey Belt rules can be interpreted to favour the developer quite easily, this means they can pretty much build on whatever land they like. Look out for our posts later on this subject.
