Our friend and local resident, Deb Scattergood, has a great idea to help us keep track of all the incredible wildlife in our area. This will help us in our fight to retain our Green Belt.

Deb recently updated the Staffordshire Ecological Records (SER) with some amazing Burntwood sightings, including a polecat, red kites, and even a large covey of partridges, which are very rare!

You can easily do the same by recording your own sightings on the Staffordshire Ecological Records (SER) website. All you have to do is:

👉 Register with iRecord on the SER website.
👉 Log your sightings.

Link to iRecord:
https://irecord.org.uk/
(find the “Create new account” link at the bottom of the Log in box).

Once your information is processed, it will show up on an interactive map. This map could be a powerful tool for local conservation and the fight against the Green Belt development efforts, BUT it needs more data and your help!

So next time you’re out and about, or even just sitting in your garden, keep an eye out and help us build a more complete picture of our local wildlife!

To help out with bird sightings, or rather hearings, download the Merlin App from Cornell Labs. You’ll find Merlin in your App Store. As you record the bird song around you it tells you which birds are singing.
