For years, the Burntwood Action Group has proudly displayed thousands of poppies to honor those who served. However, as our old plastic poppies begin to fade, we’ve decided it’s time for a change—one that is more sustainable, more personal, and crafted right here in our community.

The Vision Our goal is to replace every single plastic poppy with a hand-knitted one by Armistice Day, 11th November 2026. It is a massive undertaking, but we know Burntwood is up to the challenge. We want our displays to be a sea of wool, representing the time, care, and gratitude of our residents.
We Need Your Needles!
Whether you’re a master of the purl stitch or a complete beginner looking for a meaningful project, we need you. To keep our display uniform and respectful, we are using the official Royal British Legion knitting pattern.
- The Goal: Thousands of poppies.
- The Timeline: Now through November 2026.
- The Skill Level: Anyone! If you can knit a basic stitch, you can make a poppy.
Don’t have a stash of red wool? Don’t let that stop you! We want everyone to be able to take part regardless of their supplies. The Burntwood Action Group can provide the wool for you—just let us know what you need when you get in touch.
How to Get Involved Every single poppy counts toward our goal. Whether you can make five or five hundred, your contribution will be part of a major community tribute.
