Tonight, the voice of Burntwood was heard loud and clear.

Further to a planning meeting at the Burntwood Town Council (BTC) building we are delighted to confirm that following a representation made by the Burntwood Action Group this evening, BTC planning committee has voted UNANIMOUSLY to object to the outline planning application by Bloor Homes for land off Church Road and Coulter Lane.

The Town Councillors listened to the concerns of Burntwood Action Group and local residents and agreed that this application is the wrong development, in the wrong place, at the wrong time.

Why They Said “NO”

Crucially, the Town Council did not just object on sentiment. They aligned with the key planning principles that we have been fighting for:

1. Infrastructure Before Expansion The Council agreed that Burntwood’s infrastructure is at breaking point. With GP waiting times running into weeks and local schools already oversubscribed, adding 250 new homes (approx. 800 residents) without guaranteed, upfront infrastructure delivery is unsustainable and negligent.

2. Protecting High-Performing Green Belt They rejected the idea that our countryside is “Grey Belt” suitable for release. They recognised that this land performs a critical Green Belt function: preventing urban sprawl and maintaining the semi-rural character that makes our town unique.

3. “Plan-Led,” Not Speculative Perhaps most importantly, the Council agreed with our argument that development must be Plan-Led. We are not anti-development. We know the UK needs homes. But those homes should be built on available Brownfield first sites through a proper Local Plan process—not forced through by developers via speculative applications on high-quality Green Belt land.

What Happens Next?

This is a decent first step. A unanimous objection from our Town Council sends a powerful signal to the decision-makers at Lichfield District Council (LDC). It proves that this is not just a few neighbours complaining (we know it’s a lot more than that!), but a town united against bad planning.

However, the final decision still rests with Lichfield District Council.

The Burntwood Action Group will be submitting our full Technical Objection Pack to LDC in the new year. This includes forensic detailed reports from our specialists who will be reporting on Heritage, Highways, Ecology, and Law that prove this application is fundamentally flawed.

Thank You!

Thank you to every resident who has supported the campaign so far. Tonight proved that when we stand together, our elected officials listen.

We will keep fighting until this speculative attack on our Green Belt is defeated for good.

Strongly against the proposed building for Rake Hill and Meg Lane. The infrastructure for another 225 homes is obsurd there is not enough appointments at GP surgeries as it is, traffic is already congested outside Fulfen School, children will grow up not knowing what a country lane is. This a particular pretty side of Burntwood, and covering it in houses would ruin its countryside feel.
