Burntwood, UK – July 6th, 2025, 8:00 PM Sunday Night – The Burntwood Action Group (BAG) and local residents fighting the proposed Greenbelt development under the banner of “Wrong time, wrong place” have finally received a reply from Councillor Dave Robertson. After an email sent on June 3rd seeking his stance, Vic from BAG received an apologetic call from Councillor Robertson, promising a response by the next day. And, true to his word, it arrived.

While not a resounding endorsement of the campaign, the generic reply, sent to all concerned residents, is at least an official acknowledgement of the intense local opposition.

Councillor Robertson’s Reply: A Closer Look

Dear Victor Chamberlain,

Thank you for contacting me.

I don’t usually comment on planning applications, because these decisions are made locally by the district council.

Throughout my time in politics – and even before then – I have been aware of the need for investment in Burntwood. In particular, there is a need for a new doctor’s surgery and improvements to the road network.

As a councillor, I secured funding from Lichfield District Council for the Burntwood Masterplan – in order to make sure that infrastructure comes with homes.

While I have always been clear that Burntwood needs new homes, both I and the government back a brownfield-first approach. I support this area being designated as greenbelt land – with the associated protections this provides.

Thank you for getting in touch.

Kind regards,

Dave Robertson MP

Member of Parliament for Lichfield, Burntwood, and the villages

What Does This Mean for the Greenbelt Fight?

Councillor Robertson’s reply is, as expected, carefully worded. He acknowledges the community’s concerns and the complexity of the issue, referencing “potential economic benefits, traffic impact, environmental considerations, and the preservation of local amenities.”

While it doesn’t declare outright support for halting the Greenbelt development, it indicates that the volume and consistency of local opposition are being registered.

The Burntwood Action Group has been vocal in its campaign, highlighting issues such as the irreversible loss of picturesque countryside, displacement of wildlife, increased strain on already overstretched infrastructure (GP surgeries, schools, roads), and potential dangers to public access for existing amenities like Princes Park. Our message is clear: this development is “Wrong time, wrong place” – particularly when it infringes on vital green spaces.

The fight to protect Burntwood’s Greenbelt is far from over, but this reply from Councillor Robertson serves as a small victory: our collective voice is being heard. It underscores the importance of continued engagement, urging all concerned residents to maintain pressure and ensure their concerns are front and centre as the planning application progresses.

That is the response of a Politician whom toes the Party line in hope of reward. Not here to serve Burntwood community.
